Chapter 14: .

Lin Yi was really glad since he almost missed the closing time. If he missed the closing time, he would be trapped inside. Then it would not matter even if he had the sheng gong. Unless he could transform into an immortal, and gain the ability to survive without food and drink, or he would starve inside the cave.

When the sunlight poured into the valley, Lin Yi saw the stone gate started closing automatically without any warning. Sound of gears moving could be heard, followed by a “boom ” as the stone gate shut itself.

Lin Yi approached the gate once again when the gate was shut. But no matter what he did, he could not even make the door budge.

It seemed like the person who left the message told the truth; once the gate was closed, it would not open again. The only way to get in was to wait for it to open again in another five years.

Although that caused Lin Yi to be a slightly disappointed it was fortunate that he still had the box. So he decided to determine whether this was a disappointing trip after he examined the contents.

“Xiao Yi, are you alright?? ” A familiar voice sounded behind him. When Lin Yi turned his head, and Gramps was right there. Who knew when he appeared behind?

“Screw you! Geezer, are you trying to kick me to death? Am I superman, how can you made me do a free fall from such a height??” All of Lin Yi’s bones started hurting again when he recalled about yesterday’s night fall.

“But aren’t you still alive?” Gramps Lin felt relieved when he saw that Lin Yi was fine. He might have looked calm, but he was actually quite worried for Lin Yi. After all, it was a free fall from such a height, even if Lin Yi body was strengthened by the Chinese medicine bath that he brewed, he was not very confident.

“Not dead yet, but am about to be. ” Lin Yi hesitated whether he should tell Gramps Lin what he encounter previously. Gramps Lin is knowledgeable, so Lin Yi told him about what he encountered previously.

“Gramps, I entered that cave yesterday ….” Said Lin Yi as he pointed to the cave’s stone gate behind him.

“Mmmmm …..” Although Gramps Lin already knew that Lin Yi had already entered the cave, since the box was in his arms. He still felt happy when Lin Yi decided to personally share his experience with him.  It made Gramps Lin feel that his effort to bring Lin Yi up was not in vain, since he treated him like a family.

“So …… ” , Lin Yi did not understand what Gramps Lin was trying to say, so he decided to just share with Gramps Lin what he experienced in the cave. Finally, he handed the box over to gramps and said, “This is that box!”

“Keep it. ” Said Gramps Lin after he took a glance at the box.

“Don ’t you want to examine it??” Lin Yi was very puzzled. How can Gramps not be curious, especially after what just happened?

“It’s pointless.” Said Gramps Lin as he shook his head.

Although Lin Yi had a lot of questions, Gramps was giving off a “Don’t ask me” or a “Do as you please” aura. It made Lin Yi hesitate to ask his questions.

After a strenuous track, Lin Yi and Gramps finally returned home from the valley. Gramps Lin went straight to bed the moment he reached home. That left Lin Yi, who was still clutching onto the box, dumbfounded.

Since Gramps was so apathetic about the box, Lin Yi decided to just examine the content himself. Lin Yi then placed the box on the table, and started examining it.

The antique box was similar to the boxes that were once used in the palace of the past to contain the decrees or medicine pills. The only exception was that it was not locked, so Lin Yi was able to easily open the box after he release the clasp holding it shut.

Lin Yi’s eyes widened, and his breath started to get heavy with excitement! Finally, the box opened and inside was a silk scroll.

Lin Yi picked up the scroll, and there was a jade pendant at the bottom of the box. Lin Yi removed the pendant from the box and started examining it under the light.

The pendant was made from very good quality jade. A totem-like diagram was carved on the pendant, in addition to that, some unknown characters, which Lin Yi did not recognize, were also carved on it. Unlike the character on the scrolls, which was written in zhuan script characters, the pendant’s character were definitely from a different kind of script characters.

Lin Yi was very confused. Since the characters found in both the cave and on the scroll are written in zhuan script characters, why are the characters on the pendant different? What is so special about it?

After that Lin Yi went to ask Gramps about the pendant, but even Gramps had no idea what the pendant was for. As a matter of fact, Gramps was really surprised when he saw the jade pendant.

In fact, Gramp’s expression showed more surprise then when Lin Yi came out of the cave with the box.

So, Lin Yi could only a.s.sume that the pendant usage was to aid him in his training of the gongfa, and so he always had it with him.

Carefully, Lin Yi unraveled the scroll. When he saw that it was a very short scroll, Lin Yi got a little disappointed.

Lin Yi had read a lot of wuxia novels. He knew that the op-ness of the training manuals cannot determined by its length. Mei Fen, (a character from Jin Yong’s wuxia novel ) the pract.i.tioner of the ‘Jiu Yin Bai Gu Jua’, (translated: Nine Yin’s Bone claw  …A very op skill) managed to tattoo the manual on a single piece of human skin. So Lin Yi still had high hopes as he started to read the manual.

“Xuan Yuan Yu Long Technique” these five distinct words came into view. It was written in the same handwriting as the words on the stone tablet in the cave.

But below the five words, there was now a string of words, “First phase- Tianchan” followed by the main text: “Mortals are like insects, but can change your fate and be in control of life and death…….”

Lin Yi skimmed through the introduction and understood that the first phase consist of 3 level; qianqi (means initial level), zhonqi (mean middle level) and houqi (final level). Only the first phase of “Xuan Yuan Yu Long Technique” was recorded in this scroll.

Lin Yi was of course not ignorant enough to a.s.sume that there was only one phase. Since there was phase one, then there must exist phase two or even three.

But Lin Yi had no idea where they were. They might be behind the second stone wall in the cave, or at some other place. So Lin Yi decided to not think about it and concentrated on completing the first phase of “Xuan Yuan Yu Long Technique”

Although the introduction of “Xuan Yuan Yu Long Technique” was brief and hard to understand, the cultivation procedure was very detailed. There was even a drawing of the human body with all kongwei (acupuncture point) marked out to aid the reader. To Lin Yi, who had practiced martial art since young, all this was not a problem.

Without much thought, Lin Yi then began to follow the procedure of “Xuan Yuan Yu Long technique’s first phase: tianchan” and started cultivating.

Ignorant is bliss. Lin Yi was young. All he wanted was to learn this op technique and defeat Gramps. He did not consider whether the technique will have any conflict with the martial he has learned. Lin Yi did not even consider the risk of zouhuorumo (decrementing effect when you cultivate using two conflicting gongfa)

Now, whenever Lin Yi recalled that incident, he realized that the main reason why he decided to learn that technique was because of the awesome sounding name. “Xuan Yuan Yu Long Jue” ( Xuan Long  Yu Long jue translation: Regulus Dragon Taming Technique). A gongfa that can let a dragon submit to you must be very op!!

It was not until some years later when Lin Yi realized this cultivation technique was not martial arts
